Not your average crystal slab! Crazy Lace Agate is made up of banded chalcedony, a mineral in the quartz family, known for its intricate and colourful patterns. 

It typically forms in cavities of volcanic rocks. These cavities are created when gases get trapped in lava as it cools, leaving behind voids or bubbles. Over time, silica-rich water seeps into these cavities. The silica comes from the breakdown of other minerals in the surrounding rock. As the silica-rich solution deposits in the cavity, it hardens into chalcedony. Impurities like iron, manganese, and other minerals are often present in the solution, creating the vibrant swirls, bands, and lace-like patterns characteristic of Crazy Lace Agate.
